While studying medicine at the University of Otago, Claire Reilly and her peers discussed which disease was the worst with which to be diagnosed. Then in 2006, while she was working as a medical administrator at Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Dr Reilly began tripping up and having difficulty with buttons.
For the first time since it began four years ago, Auckland-based charity Community Fruit Harvesting has sent 30 boxes of citrus fruit to Christchurch to be distributed by local food banks. Boxes of grapefruit, oranges, tangelos, lemons and limes were shared among the Salvation Army, City Mission and 0800 HUNGRY.

TAKEN FOR A RIDE: Crystal Port, pictured with son Rico-Zainden Poulson, bought a car off Trade Me for $1700 which broke down, needing a $1000 repair. Blenheim woman Crystal Port bought a car off Trade Me so she could take her family to Christchurch to visit her father during his cancer treatment. But they only made it to Kaikoura before the car broke down, four days after it was purchased.
Owners of a wildlife sanctuary in the Pelorus Sound have gained more than 700 signatures on a petition against a scheduled 1080 drop near their property. "Stop the 1080 Drop", started on August 19 by Tira Ora Estate co-owners Annebeth Riles and Tony Broad, had attracted signatures from people throughout New Zealand and other countries.
CITRUS SEASON: Community Fruit Harvesting Marlborough co-ordinator Rowan West is looking for volunteers to pick unwanted fruit from backyards and vineyards. A charity that collects unwanted fruit from backyards and orchards and hands them out to those in need has been set up in Marlborough. Community Fruit Harvesting was started by Auckland woman Di Celliers in 2011 and has swept the nation since.

Earthquake-affected Cantabrians are feeling more tired and overwhelmed than ever, new research shows. A survey of 800 residents found almost two-thirds felt tired - up 10 per cent on 2012 - and fewer than half were regularly sleeping well. Huntsbury resident Mel Opie, whose life is "on hold" until her family's insurance issues are resolved, was surprised the figures were not higher.
